ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Global warming ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES Environmental studies is the academic field which systematically studies human interaction with the environment. While distinct from ecology and environmental science, the field encompasses study in the basic principles of those two fields of learning as well as the associated subjects, such as: ethics, policy, politics, law, economics, philosophy, sociology and other social aspects, planning, pollution control, natural resources, and the interactions of human beings and nature. Ecosystem Structure and Function The study of ecosystems mainly consists of the study of the processes that link the leaving organism or in other words biotic component to the non-living organism or abiotic component. So for the study of environment we should aware with biotic and abiotic component
Natural Resource Conservation Focus on managing and maintenance of forests which are natural resources and for the maintenance of wildlife forms. It is also a scope of environmental studies. Environmental Pollution Control With the knowledge of environmental science, everybody can control the pollution. He/she can handle the waste management and also look for ways to control pollution on the aspect of pollution control. Environmental Management There are several independent environmental consultants who are working with Central and State pollution control Board. They offer advice to solve the problems of environment, the optimum solution for the upcoming problems. They give direction for controlling pollution due to industrial development. There are several current consultants who are working with government pollution control boobs, involved in policy making, pollution control, maintenance of ecological balance. Social Development NGO (nongovernmental organizations) help in creating awareness regarding the protection of the environment and making the masses aware of various environmental issues . They also generate a public opinion in this field. They work towards disseminating information and in bringing about changes in political policies. The social dimension of this profession includes controlling population explosion through organizing advisory awareness camps. Importance of Environmental Studies Environmental studies helps to maintain ecological balance by providing a basic knowledge of environmental systems and their processes. This study help us by giving information regarding the changes that take place due to anthropogenic factors environmentally.
It also helps to gain a skill in using techniques to analyze various environmental systems and the effect of human activities on that system. - Environmental studies applies economical methods and concepts to issues of the environment, management, environmental policy analysis. Environmental study includes diverse area such as property rights, economic instruments for pollution control, cost benefit analysis management applications with environmental policy. - Concepts from environmental studies can be applied to the study of agriculture and the design of sustainable production systems. - We need a study of physical, biological, chemical and social processes that form the basic of the problem of environment. Environmental studies provides skills necessary to raise the questions and too often obtain answers to some of the environmental problems which our planet is facing today. As the world's population grows, improving living standards without destroying the Environment is a Global challenge. Most developing countries with rapid population growth face the urgent need to improve living standards. As we exploit the nature to meet the present needs, we are destroying the resources needed for the future. Threat to Environment In the past decade in every environmental sector, conditions have either failed to improve, or they are worsening. Public Health  Unclean water along with poor sanitation, kills over 12 million people each year. Water pollution is a serious problem everywhere.  Air pollution kills nearly 3 million people. Air pollution, already a serious problem in cities, is becoming worse as urban population grow and the number of motor vehicles rises.  Heavy metals and other contaminants also causes health problems Food Supply  In most developing countries, the population has been growing faster than food supplies.  Population pressures have degraded some 2 billion hectares of cultivable land- an area the size of USA and Canada put together. Freshwater  Supply of fresh water is limiting, since the demand is soaring as population grows and per-capita use rises.  By 2025, when world population is projected to be 8 billion, nearly 48 countries containing 3 billion people will face freshwater shortages Coastlines and Oceans  Half of all coastal ecosystems are pressured by high population densities and urban development  A tide of pollution is rising in the world's seas  Ocean fisheries are being overexploited and fish catches are down Forests  Nearly half of the world's original forest cover has been lost.  Each year millions of hectares of forests are cut, bulldozed or burned  Forests provide over 400 billion US$ to the world economy annually and are vital to maintaining healthy ecosystems  Current demand for forest products may exceed the limit of sustainable consumption by 25% Bio-diversity  Earth's biological diversity is crucial to the continued vitality of Agriculture and Medicine, and perhaps even to life on Earth itself  Human activities are pushing many thousands of plant and animal Species into extinction  Two of every three species is estimated to be in decline Global climate change The Earth's surface is warming due to greenhouse gas emissions, largely from burning fossil fuels.  If the global temperature rises as projected, sea levels would rise by several meters, causing widespread flooding.  Global warming also cause droughts and disrupt agriculture Environmental protection is a practice of protecting the environment, on individual, organizational or governmental level, for the benefit of the natural environment and (or) humans. Due to the pressures of population and our technology the biophysical environment is being degraded, sometimes permanently. This has been recognized and governments began placing restraints on activities that caused environmental degradation. Since the 1960s activism by the environmental movement has created awareness of the various environmental issues. There is not a full agreement on the extent of the environmental impact of human activity and protection measures are occasionally criticized. Academic institutions now offer courses such as environmental studies, environmental management and environmental engineering that study the history and methods of environmental protection. Protection of the environment is needed from various human activities. Waste, pollution, loss of biodiversity, and the introduction of invasive species are some of the issues relating to environmental protection. Ground breaking wave connect energy STORY OF A TREE TO A MAN PRAYING FOR A BOON I need no introduction, yet I have to mention my name, yes I am a tree, the embodiment of total sacrifice to the humanity in particular and the whole world in general. “Do you think that my sacrifices are recognized and rewarded.” ..? Here a glimpse of what I do for you? God has created me and then only you The time your mother gave birth to you That second I gave free oxygen for you to breathe Your mother made her saree a cradle And tied it to my branch I offered cradle to sleep, in nature’s breeze In the grassland meadow I made you cheerful by swinging the flowers, leaves branches I turned the violent wind into gentle breeze Which embrace you to have a deep sleep I gave you beautiful dolls to play I gave instruments to sing Music under trees with instruments made from trees I provided cotton and silk and to beautify you I offered white lotus to Goddess Saraswathi Through your hands I offered papers to write your exam And appointment order paper for your job I burnt myself and gave coal I burnt the coal and gave electricity I buried myself and gave diamond gave food grains to extract oil I gave oil to lite a lamp cotton as a wick I gave myself as fire stick and ghee to lite a lamp I fed cows with grass for getting butter I created clouds to get rain I will live to make you live You live and make me live But put down your axe “ Let us grow trees and get rain” Don’t repeat the slogans alone Give me boon to do them in action Yesterday is over Tomorrow would come after day break But today would never come again Do good but to day itself Bodhi trees gave gnana to Buddha I give shade and protect you from the scratching sun. I offer fruits, vegetables etc. Road side trees gave fame to king Ashoka Our ancestor planted trees for us to live We plant trees for our generation to live Roots of cut trees are there And you are also there to console me Dear friends, In spite of all neglect you have done for me, I still would request you to reconsider all the sacrifice by me towards you and so in the minds of future generations in the services offered by me and keen desire to foster the community for our mutual benefits. As the vision of Bharathiyar we create and preserve If you could plant a tree and there would be no global warming
